District Development Programme

AMP’s Backward District Development Programme

There are 3.2 Crore Muslims below poverty line (BPL) in India and most of these are living in the 101 most backward Districts of India (As per latest data released by Niti Aayog, GOI).

The Niti Aayog, earlier Planning Commission, has recently released a ranking of 101 most underdeveloped districts in the country. Mewat, a Muslim-dominated district hardly two-hour drive from Delhi, is country’s most backward district.

The Aayog released a baseline ranking of 101 districts on the basis of 49 indicators across five sectors – Health and Nutrition (30% weightage), Education (30%), Agriculture and Water Resources (20%), Financial Inclusion and Skill Development (10%) and Basic Infrastructure (10%).

Mewat is not alone. Out of the top 20 Backward Districts, 11 Districts are Muslim Dominated and 4 of them are in U.P. As can be seen from the Niti Aayog Data, Education, Skill Development and Financial Inclusion are important parameters on which Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP) has been working since a Decade.

Looking ahead, since about a year back AMP has started working on a Roadmap for the Economic Development Plan (EDP) of the Community and has been holding meetings with Social Leaders, Retired Bureaucrats, Senior Professionals and Industry Leaders to identify Solution Partners and Implementation Partners.

As part of its EDP Programme for the Community, AMP has decided to start a Backward District Development Programme (BDDP). For this, the following initiatives will be implemented;

  1. Support A Small Business
  2. Skill Training Centres
  3. Maktab Transformation
  4. Skill upgradation for Ulema
  5. Setting up E-Kendras at every Village

As a pilot project, AMP will adopt Siddarth Nagar, a very backward District of UP where 500 poorest families will be supported with AMP’s ‘Support A Small Business’ initiative. In this programme, the identified disadvantaged families will be supported with self-employment based on the ground realities and the talent/skill of the Individual.

As a supporter of AMP’s various initiatives, we invite you to contribute your Time, Skills and Donations to this Project. You may start with donating a part of your Zakat this Ramzaan and continue to support this throughout the year by contributing your Sadqats and Bank Interest money on a regular basis.

We will thus be able to bring about the Positive Change we wish to see in our Community inshaAllah!

With your help, we can do more!

You can make your Zakat/Sadqah/Interest contributions under the following Bank Account either by online transfer (NEFT/IMPS/RGTS) or direct deposit. Once you make the donations, please do not forget to send a confirmation mail to us on info@ampindia.org along with your Name, Email Id, Phone Number and Location so that we can send you back the receipts.
