AMP Zakat Fund - Report 2019

 759 Deserving & Underprivileged Lives touched by AMP Zakat Fund!

Zakat is one of the 5 pillars of Islam and one of the most defining characteristics. No other theological religion places such a great emphasis on social equity through the voluntary contribution of Charity. In more than 30 verses of the Holy Qur’an, the giving of Zakat is included along with the Worshipping of the Lord Almighty (Salah) as the most desirable qualities of the faithful. It is the third pillar of Islam which represents the economic aspect of Islam.

AMP Zakat Fund (AZF), was started 7 years ago with a focus of utilizing it for Education and Self-employment of underprivileged Muslims. Alhamdulillah! It has grown multi-fold from a collection of merely Rs. 2 lakhs in 2013 to more than Rs. 89,96,082 from 948 Donors in the year 2019. One of the main objective of the AMP Zakat Fund is to help make the Zakat Seekers of today become the Zakat Givers of tomorrow. Please find below the details of AMP Zakat Fund from 2013-2019;

Higher Education Scholarship;

Through Higher Education Scholarship project, AMP supported 255 financially needy students pursuing professional courses. These Scholarships which ranged from Rs. 10,000 – Rs. 50,000 were distributed to most deserving and meritorious students selected from 1500+ applications received from across India. These Scholarships were given in 87 selected Cities which consisted of 113 Girls and 142 Boys. Out of these cases, about 70 of them are Orphans.

Orphans’ Basic Education;

We provided financial support for the Basic Education of 246 needy Orphan children through AMP’s vast network of schools so that these children are not deprived of even the basic education for want of a guardian. Out of these there were approx. 60% Girls.

Self-Employment Assistance;

The Self-Employment Assistance of largely Rs. 25000 each was provided to 150 unemployed poor, 71 Women and 80 Men, within the community to start a small business with the objective of promoting Self-Employment. This assistance was provided across the Country, mainly focussing on Rural areas. The focus were given to widows and Old age people to start some self-sustainable activity.

  • In Bhopal our chapter tied up with a local NGO and distributed Sewing Machines to women to do regular stitching work provided by Partner Organization, handcarts to men and helped women with Kirana stores. Altogether 15 women and 5 men benefited.
  • In Kolkata, our EB & volunteer teams identified absolutely needy and extremely poor, many of whom were orphans/widows and needed to start livelihoods. 5 women were helped with Sewing Machines and Door-to-Door selling material and 2 men were helped with A/C or Refrigeration repairing shops.
  • In UP at Faizabad, Siddharth Nagar & Padrauna-Kushi Nagar, Osmanabad in Mahrashtra  and in Assam, 10 families (Mainly Females) were identified and selected for Goat Rearing projects, which has the potential to turn into a great initiative.
  • Tied with a manufacturing company to provide cloth material for around 100 poor youngsters and school dropouts for retail selling.

Delhi Riot Orphan Victims;

In Feb this year, one of the worst communal riots broke out in East Delhi and many Muslims were killed, leaving behind widows and orphans. As per of our Orphan Education initiative, AMP Zakat Fund decided to sponsor the education of the orphans of Delhi riots victims and for this we have tied up with the local NGOs and pledged an amount of Rs. 10,00,000 which will be disbursed after due diligence and verification.

IIT Coaching;

As part of AMP’s Centre of Excellence (ACE), we have sponsored 5 needy but bright students who will be coached for getting into IITs. For this reason, we have set up a residential coaching centre in Lucknow, where these meritorious students will undergo coaching.

AMP Zakat Fund aims to reach out to more and more needy Muslims within Education and Self-Employment domains in India. We will ensure that the Fund will spread its reach to every city, town and village in India and will touch more lives in the years to come inshaAllah!
