AMP conducts its 2nd meet of Senior Professionals

The Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP) held its second meeting for Senior Professionals in Mumbai on September 30, 2023, aimed at advancing an Economic Development Plan for the community. Led by AMP President Aamir Edresy, the gathering featured experienced professionals discussing initiatives such as peer-to-peer financing, Women Entrepreneurship programs, and support for small businesses facing compliance challenges due to GST. The meeting also proposed establishing a Shariah Advisory board to enhance acceptance of business solutions aligned with Halal principles. Participants were invited to nominate themselves for various initiatives, generating strong interest. The meeting concluded with plans to engage broader networks across the country to gather diverse perspectives on the Economic Development Plan. Notable attendees included industry leaders from various sectors, contributing to a collaborative effort for community advancement.

In continuation of its ambitious plans for galvanizing the Community towards Economic Progress, Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP) conducted, its second meeting in Mumbai on Sat, 30th Sept. ‘17, of some of the Community's senior professionals with rich industry experience and expertise. The meeting was co-ordinated and was presided over by AMP President, Mr. Aamir Edresy, an entrepreneur himself.

With some new members attending the meeting and to recap the previous meeting’s discussions, a brief introduction to the project and about the initiatives was given to the participants by Mr. Aziz Khatri, Country Head – Operations, Sewells Group. He also spoke regarding the objectives of the Initiative, the general background and on the Concept Note shared earlier in the group.

Taking the discussion forward a proposed structure of teams was put on table for brainstorming. Few ideas shared by the members included exploring options of peer to peer financing, establishing Women Entrepreneurship programs, setting up a cell for supporting small businesses which are struggling to meet the compliance requirements with the advent of GST. Suggestion also oriented towards a Shariah Advisory board being set up for wider acceptance of the proposed solutions especially in terms of running businesses on the Halal and Shariah concepts.

Nominations were invited from the participating Professionals to support as well as head the various initiatives being discussed, which received tremendous response. It was proposed that a list of various initiatives along with the team leads and supporting members will be released shortly for which working group guidelines will also be shared.

Aamir Edresy concluded the meet with the proposed way forward which included the members concurring on the idea of inviting their contacts for discussion in smaller circles not just within the city but across the country. This was to be done so that various viewpoints regarding an Economic Development Plan could be gathered and a combined policy could be advocated for the same.

Suhel Shaikh, Dir., Goldrush Capital Services, Mr. Iqbal Munir Khan, Sr. Relationship Mgr., ADCB, Mr. M. Farook Anwar, General Manager, Puravankara Projects, Mr. Md. Ali Naik, Consultant & Trainer, Mr. Hasan Wangde, Investment Consultant, Miss. Muzna Memon, V.P., Deusche Bank, Mr. Syed Najeeb-Ur-Rahman, Entrepreneur, Corporate Trainer and Faculty with Mumbai University who is also the AMP General Secretary.
